AI Search Visibility

AI search visibility

Represent the business and its services clearly across your website and online profiles, with a process for monitoring what ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity say.

The assessment is an initial, limited review — not a full technical audit, and not free implementation.

A growing share of buying research happens in a conversation rather than a results page. Someone asks an assistant which businesses offer a service, how to compare two options, or who to contact locally, and receives a synthesised answer drawn from sources the system already trusts.

There is no switch that places a business inside those answers, and no reliable paid route to being recommended. What is within reach is representation: making sure the business and its services are described clearly, consistently and in structured form across the website and the profiles that such systems draw on — and then checking, on a schedule, what those systems currently say.

We treat this as a young and partly unmeasurable field. The work is legitimate and useful, the outcomes are not guaranteed, and we will tell you which parts are observation and which parts are inference. The observation is concrete: the same branded and unbranded prompts are put to ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity, and what each one says is recorded with the date.

The problem

What this service addresses

Businesses are being described by AI systems whether or not anyone has checked the description — and often the description is thin, inconsistent or wrong.

  • Services, coverage areas or operating details described differently on the website, the Google Business Profile and directory listings.
  • Pages written in long narrative form with no clear, quotable statement of what the business does and for whom.
  • No structured data, so key facts have to be inferred rather than read.
  • No baseline: nobody has asked the assistants the questions customers actually ask, so nobody knows whether the business appears or what is said.
  • No repeatable way to tell whether anything has changed from one month to the next.

Who benefits

Who gets the most from this

If your situation looks like one of these, this is likely to be a sensible place to start. If it does not, we will say so rather than sell it anyway.

  • Businesses whose customers research and compare before making contact — professional services, B2B suppliers, healthcare, education, home improvement.
  • Businesses already investing in SEO that want the same content to be legible to AI systems.
  • Multi-service businesses whose offer is hard to summarise accurately from the outside.
  • Owners who want an honest reading of what is actionable here and what is still speculative.

Scope

What the work can include

The items below are the building blocks. What is actually included is agreed in writing before work starts — not everything here is right for every business.

  • 01

    Baseline observation

We put a defined set of customer prompts to three tools — ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity — and record whether the business appears, what is said, and whether the facts are correct. The prompts are a mix of branded ones (naming the business) and unbranded ones (describing the need, not the business), and the prompts, tools and date are written down so the exercise can be repeated exactly.

  • 02

    Representation and consistency

Aligning how the business is described across the website, the Google Business Profile, structured data and directory listings, so the same facts are stated the same way everywhere they appear.

  • 03

    Structured information

Organisation, service and location structured data where appropriate, plus clear page-level statements of what is offered, where, and on what basis.

  • 04

Content that can be quoted accurately

Rewriting key pages so the answer to a specific question appears plainly near the top, with the detail that only the business has — process, materials, turnaround, exclusions.

  • 05

    Off-site accuracy

Identifying the directories, trade bodies and profiles that are realistic for the business and helping get the information on them accurate — not manufactured mentions.

  • 06

    Monitoring process

A documented monthly routine — the same three tools, the same prompts and the same recording method — so change can be seen rather than assumed.

Deliverables

What you receive

Deliverables are listed in the proposal and agreed before work starts, so there is no ambiguity about what is being produced.

  • A baseline record of how ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity answered the agreed branded and unbranded prompts, with the exact prompts and the date.
  • A consistency checklist covering the website, profile and named directories.
  • Structured data implemented on the agreed key pages.
  • Rewritten key pages, with direct answers stated plainly.
  • A monitoring template and a written routine you can run yourself or we can run for you.
  • A short report distinguishing what was observed from what is inferred.

Dependencies

What depends on you or on third parties

Some of this work cannot proceed without access, approvals or a platform that allows the change. We would rather name those now than discover them mid-project.

  • Website access to implement structured data and page changes, or a developer we can brief.
  • Your input on the questions customers genuinely ask — a handful in their own words is enough.
  • The directory and profile listings you know of, so accuracy work is not guesswork.
  • Platform dependency: AI search tools change models, sources and interfaces without notice, give different answers at different times, and do not publish how they select businesses. Monitoring records what ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity said on a given date; it is not a ranking measurement.

Engagement

How scope, duration and fees are agreed

Nothing is charged for before you have approved a written proposal. The proposal is the agreement.

  • Scope

Scope is agreed as a defined set of pages, services and profiles, plus a stated number of monitoring questions. Additional services or markets are scoped separately.

  • Duration

Initial setup is a short project, typically a few weeks of work. Monitoring, where taken as an ongoing engagement, runs monthly with a stated minimum so there is a sequence to compare.

  • Fees

Our packages start at the published prices, with setup and ongoing monitoring priced separately so you can stop after the setup if you prefer to run the routine yourself. Final fees are confirmed in a written proposal based on your business goals, scope and deliverables.

You can engage this service on its own, or as part of a coordinated combination with another area. Where services are combined, the proposal shows each area separately. See how pricing works.

Limits

What this service cannot promise

We improve visibility and digital foundations. We cannot guarantee rankings, AI citations, enquiry volumes or sales.

  • We do not guarantee citation, mention or recommendation by ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity or any other AI search tool or assistant.
  • AI responses vary by model, location and date, and a sample is not a guarantee of being cited or ranked; a single observation is not a ranking.
  • There is no paid placement route to being recommended that we would sell you.

AI Search Visibility: questions we get asked

Is this just SEO with a new name?

It overlaps substantially — clear structure, consistent facts, credible sources. The differences are narrow but real: how explicitly facts are stated for extraction, how consistently the business is described off-site, and how responses are observed and recorded over time. We do not sell it as a separate magic system.

Can we pay to appear in AI answers?

Not in the way search advertising works. Some platforms are testing sponsored formats, but there is no dependable paid route to being recommended, and we will not sell you one.

Which tools do you sample?

ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity — the same three every time, so month-to-month comparisons are like for like. In each one we ask a fixed set of branded prompts (naming the business) and unbranded prompts (describing what a customer needs, without naming anyone), and record what was said, what was cited and the date. We do not quietly swap tools in or out; if we ever add or drop one, it is stated in the report. Results vary by model, location and date, and a sample is not a guarantee of being cited or ranked.

Will you get us cited by ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews or Perplexity?

No, and we will not claim to. What we can do is improve how clearly and consistently the business is represented, and establish a documented process for observing what those tools say. Whether a system cites you is its decision.

How do we check this ourselves?

Ask ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity the same five customer questions in a private window, and write down whether the business is named and whether the facts are right. Repeat on the same date each month. That record is more useful than any single screenshot.

Does this replace SEO?

No. It reuses it. The content and structure that help a site rank are largely the same things that make it quotable, so this usually runs alongside SEO rather than instead of it.
